Alissa Southworth
Director of Government RelationsAlissa comes to ADS with a breadth of both media and federal government policy experience from her years working on Capitol Hill. This combination is key in her ability to form relationships with political decision makers and their staffs to provide airtight strategic communication plans. Alissa works with clients to facilitate potential partnerships with the Department of Defense (DoD), and helps forge industry relationships that directly impact a company's bottom line.
As press secretary for the U.S. Senate's Homeland Security and Governmental Relations Committee, Alissa developed the finer points of effective media communications. While serving as a senior legislative assistant in the office of Congressman Charlie Bass of New Hampshire, she advised Mr. Bass on all policy issues related to defense, foreign affairs and trade, and worked with companies to help broaden their work within the DoD through policy shifts and appropriations opportunities.
Alissa handled all health care matters relevant to the Congressman's role on the House Committee on Energy and Commerce and worked with Committee staff to develop federal policies pertaining to physician and hospital Medicare and Medicaid reimbursement, prescription drug coverage, and medical liability reform.
On behalf of Mr. Bass, then co-chair of the moderate Republican House Tuesday Group, Alissa actively engaged with House leadership to ensure consideration of legislation critical to the moderate agenda, including the Stem Cell Research Enhancement Act and various drug reimportation amendments.
A New England native, Alissa holds a B.A. from the University of New Hampshire.
